At noon on Wednesday, March 23, the Compton Union Building Junior Ballroom will host a discussion by actor RJ Mitte, well known for his role as Walter “Flynn” White Jr. on the series “Breaking Bad.” Any and all Pullman students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend. There will be no livestream of the presentation.
“I am really looking forward to this,” said Matthew Jeffries, director of campus climate and community building in the Division of Student Affairs. This is the kind of once-in-a-lifetime experience that will stick with pupils long after they graduate.
Disabilities Awareness Training
Doctors put Mitte’s legs in casts for six months after he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age three. The majority of his youth was spent relying on leg braces and crutches until he finally developed the muscle strength to walk normally.
After relocating to the Los Angeles area in 2006, Mitte sought roles in films that would allow him to use his acting skills to raise awareness about his condition. He was cast in the role in 2008 and remained the show’s focal point through its cancellation in 2013.
Both the Screen Actors Guild and the Media Access Foundation gave him awards that year for his contributions to the television drama genre.
Mitte is a prominent advocate for the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the media and arts, and she has acted as the Screen Performers Guild’s spokeswoman for actors with disabilities.
In addition to “Breaking Bad,” Mitte has acted in the horror films “Stump” (2011) and “House of Last Things” (2012). In addition, he was the documentary “Vanished: The Tara Calico Storyexecutive “‘s producer.

The Access Center’s annual Disability Awareness Symposium, which was postponed this year owing to staffing issues and conflicting objectives, will be replaced by Mitte’s appearance, according to Jeffries.
His goal for Mitte’s presentation is for audience members of all stripes to realise that they, too, are subject to the pervasive influence of unconscious biases.
To become aware of them and make progress toward eliminating them, “it takes these types of learning situations,” he said.

“I think people will leave with a better awareness of how impairments are portrayed on film, whether accurately or inaccurately, and the impact it has on individuals with disabilities,” she added. I think it’s fantastic that we get to hear from a leader in the field.
