On Friday, in a FIBA AmeriCup qualification game, the United States beat the Bahamas 93-77, with 19 points from Isaiah Thomas, who was playing in his first competitive game in more than a year.
Thomas, who is 32 years old and a two-time NBA All-Star for the Boston Celtics, averaged 28.9 points per game last year. However, late in that season he sustained a hip injury and has never quite recovered.
He made the decision to suit up for the Americans in part as a promotional vehicle for his return to the NBA, where he last appeared for the Washington Wizards in February of this year.
As the Americans jumped off to an early 11-2 lead, the 5-foot-9 guard proved his shooting touch is still intact by nailing three consecutive 3-pointers. However, his six turnovers kept the Bahamas in the game for much longer than they should have.

The United States Beat Mexico on Saturday.
The United States, led by James Nunnally’s 19 points, is undefeated (5-0) in qualifying play and has a chance to remain undefeated (3-0) through three windows if they beat Mexico on Saturday.
The United States has already qualified for the AmeriCup competition in 2022, but they brought a formidable lineup to San Juan that includes eight players who have played in the NBA during the regular season.
Thomas wasn’t the only star performer, as seven-time All-Star Joe Johnson chipped in 11 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Even though the United States won the November window matchup against the Bahamas by a score of 40 to 10, their lead was only 10 entering the final period.
Before Thomas converted a layup and 3-pointer to extend the margin to 88-72, the Americans had been leading by only three points (83-72).

Final Words
All four Group D teams are playing this weekend in San Juan in a bubble configuration due to the coronavirus, which defeats the purpose of adding the qualifying games in the first place, which was to offer national teams a chance to play home games.
As a member of the Bahamas’ team, Travis Munnings poured in 22 points (1-4).
