From February 2nd-8th, 2022, the Beijing National Aquatics Center hosted the Olympic mixed doubles curling competition.
Mixed Doubles Curling Standings Olympics 2022
There were ten teams competing in the round robin stage, and the top four teams (Norway, Italy, Great Britain, and Sweden) advanced to the medal stage.
As such, the 2018 Winter Olympics will include the sport’s second-ever appearance at the Winter Games: the mixed doubles event.
Separation at the top of the standings is beginning to take shape in the mixed doubles curling tournament at the 2022 Winter Olympics, with four sessions still to play.
Italy’s performance as the last undefeated team has been the biggest shock of the games thus far.
It was one of just three times Italy finished in the top 10 at the World Championships that the duo of Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner qualified for the Olympics. Their record versus other competing teams was even at 5 wins and 5 losses.
Italy’s Olympic schedule started off favourably, since their first five games were played against the four worst teams in the tournament.
The Italians have only played one game that was decided by a single point, yet they have outscored their opponents 44-36. Their other three victories were each decided by a score of 4 points, while their lone 8-point victory came against the Czech Republic.
Italy’s 7-5 win over the defending world champions Great Britain on Saturday morning underlined the team’s recent success was no fluke.
The Olympic Curling Competitions for Men and Women are Team Competitions, but mixed Doubles Curling is a little Different.
In mixed doubles, instead of four players per team tossing eight stones per end, there are two players per team.
Each team gets to decide who gets to throw the first and last stones, as well as who throws the second, third, and fourth stones. In addition, there will be a reduction from ten ends to eight.
On Tuesday, February 7th, the top four teams will move on to the semi-finals after playing each other in a round robin style.
